Faith without Action is Dead James 2:17

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash" Matthew 7:24-27 TNIV

Just like at Arbraska, the more times you let go with your feet and hands and feel the harness hold you up, the more confident you are that it is still there, attached to you, and that it will hold the next time you let go.

As an academic, I sometimes find myself spending too much time, thinking but not applying.  This sometimes results in uncertainty about the existence of God outside my head.  I develop all these mental hypothesis and theories about who he is, if he exists etc etc, but if I don't test them in the physical world, I can never reasonably put much confidence in them.

I have to keep putting myself in situations where I have to lean my weight into the harness to remember that it is there or I wouldn't still be dangling safely mid-air.

ramblings of a mist-filmed mind

I had another poem critiqued today.  It was the "a singe trio" that I'd handed out at the beginning of the semester and thought I'd gotten away with it not being critiqued.  Not so, Christine.  It was fine though.  I was more ready to have a poem that I wasn't overly proud of picked apart than I was at the start of the semester.

God's timing is good.

Again, my style was described as reminiscent of Dickinson.

I sometimes feel pulled to be a poetic hermit--not having to think about who might like what poem enough to publish it....  I'm still a fetus among the editor mind-readers.

Write.  Die. And let my still earth bound relations worry about publishing.

your welcome.

This is more or less half an exercise for drama class, which involved writing in other author's styles. This is based on a play by Beckett--a little modern and absurdist. But this style was lots of fun to write.

Kitchen cluttered with the half finished Thanksgiving dinner.  Mom is stirring a pot.  Jen enters.

Jen:  Do you need any help Mom?
Mom: Help?
Jen: With supper.
Mom:  Would you like to help?
Jen: If you need it.
Mom: You could peel the potatoes.
Jen: Potatoes?
Mom: On the table.
Jen sits and begins peeling.
Mom:  It’s good to have you home.
Jen: Yes?
Mom:  I’ve missed you.
Jen: It’s really relaxing being back home.  But I can’t get any work done.
Mom:  Should work be done?
Jen: It needs to be.
Mom:  Shouldn’t you rest sometimes too?
Jen: That needs to be too.
Mom:  Have you made many friends yet?
Jen: Are friends made?
Mom: Do you have anybody to spend time with?
Jen: I hang out with Mike.
Mom:  Doesn’t he have things to study?
Jen: Don’t I?
Mom:  What’s he supposed to be studying?
Jen:  What am I supposed to be studying?
Mom:  What’s he do?
Jen:  We met in intro to psyc.  That’s what he does--psychology. But he likes music too.
Mom: Does he play?
Jen: He listens.
Mom: To you?
Jen: To concerts.  Classical concerts.
Mom: He likes classical?
Jen:  Why shouldn’t he?
Mom: Why shouldn’t he indeed. Is he a good guy?
Jen:  Why?
Mom:  What’s he like?
Jen: We’re just friends.
Mom: You hang out a lot.
Jen: Do you think I want to marry him?
Mom: Do you?
Jen: We’re just friends.
Mom: Just peel two more and that’ll be enough.
Jen:  Two?
Mom: Two.  Do you like your classes?
Jen: Do I sound like I don’t?
Mom: No.
Jen: They’re fine.
Mom: Are you happy in your program?
Jen:  Why wouldn't I be?  Finishes peeling last potato. I think I’m done.  What do you want me to do with them?
Mom: Do?
Jen: I’m done.
Mom:  Leave them here.  I’ll take care of them.
Jen: Is there anything else for me to do?
Mom: I shouldn’t think so.
Jen: I shouldn’t either.
Mom: We don’t think so.
Jen: We don’t either.

"'This day is holy to the Lord your God.  Do not mourn or weep.'  For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

Nehemiah said, 'Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared.  This day is holy to our Lord.  Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength'" Nehemian 8:9,10 (TNIV)

This passage is so cool.  I mean these people are guilt ridden when they realize that they've been breaking so many of God's laws.  But God doesn't want them staying in guilt.  As soon as they recognize that what they did was wrong and desired to stop doing it, He said rejoice!

"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it" 1 Thessalonians 5:23,24 (TNIV)
